Annual Sweets 'N Swing Jazz Concert Coming Soon!

The annual Sweets 'N Swing Jazz Concert will take place in the ECMS cafeteria on Tuesday, April 24th at 7 p.m. and will feature both the ECMS & Wheeler Jazz Ensenbles.  Please mark your calendars for this fabulous event and plan to bring the entire family, extended family, and friends -- all are welcome!!!!!  This event is free and open to the public, and there will be refreshments served throughout the concert. 

International Night Success!

Congratulations to members of the ECMS Jazz Band and the newly-formed Saxophone Quartet for their outstanding performances at International Night on Thursday, February 23rd.  All of their hard work paid off for a night of great music-making!

District 12 Honor Band Event

Congratulations to the following 8th grade band students for representing East Cobb Middle School at the District 12 Honor Band Event:  Alex F., William W., and Kyle W.  These students were selected by audition to participate in this event, which took place at Hightower Trail Middle School the weekend of February 12th, and they make us very proud at ECMS!!!!!!!

8th Grade Trip Payments!

The $50.00 deposit for the 8th Grade Band Spring Trip is now past due (deadline was February 10th).  About 14 students still need to turn in this payment.  Instrumentation is critical for all performances, but especially when we are planning a performance such as this one -- out of state.  Please have your child bring the money to school (if paying by check, please make payable to ECMS), put the payment in a school money envelope, and drop it in the safe next to the Media Center.  If your child has decided not to participate, we need to know about it right away.  We also welcome additional students if they have decided that they DO wish to participate after all.

The total cost of the trip is $140.00, so if a student has already turned in the $50.00 deposit, the remaining balance is $90.00.  This final payment is due by Friday, March 23rd. 

All parents who indicated that they wish to be a chaperone are invited to join us, and we need for you to turn in a payment of $48.00.  We greatly appreciate your willingness to join us on this trip, although we regret that we are not able to take care of this payment for you.

 

7th and 8th Grade Large Group Performance Evaluation!

The 7th and 8th Grade Bands will perform off-campus at their Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) concerts in March, with a preview concert here at East Cobb on Tuesday, February 28th.  Each band will perform for a panel of judges and will be evaluated based on our curriculum standards.  They will be given ratings from each judge based on how well they perform.  There will also be 'specialists' who will be judging very specific areas:  Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, and Conducting. 

The 8th Grade Band will perform at their LGPE on Monday, March 12th at 6:40 p.m. at McEachern High School.

The 7th Grade Band will perform at their LGPE on Tuesday, March 27th at 7:00 p.m. at Kell High School. 

Attached is the letter that was handed out with all of the detailed information for both groups, in addition to the permission form that students need to turn in (signed by a parent/guardian) by Tuesday, February 28th.

8th Grade Spring Trip to Tennessee!!!!!!!

It is time for the 8th Grade Band Trip to Tennessee!  The 8th Grade Band will be participating in the Music in the Parks Festival on Saturday, May 5, 2012.  Students were given an information letter and intent form on January 10th, and the intent form is due back asap.  Download Music in the Parks 12  In addition, all students must have the notarized medical form on file (handed out back in August) in order to be eligible for this trip, per Cobb County policy.  Download 1112 Medical Form

Upcoming Jazz Band Performances!

The ECMS Jazz Band has two performances coming up:

Monday, February 6 -- Rising 6th Grade Dinner

Thursday, February 23 -- International Night

Students will be receiving detailed information very soon.  We have a full schedule this spring, so please make sure that all members attend every rehearsal!

Band Practice Record for 3rd Quarter (all grade levels!)

All 6th, 7th and 8th grade band students will be using the same practice record for the 3rd quarter (yes, 7th and 8th grade students have returned to their beloved practice records!).  Each student received one in class when they returned from Winter Break and it is hot pink.  Students fill out the row for a particular week, a parent signs that row, and then the students turn in the practice record to the white box in the front of the band room.  After the practice record is graded, students need to pick up their practice records in the wall pockets near the turn-in box.  Blank practice records are always available in the band room and can also be found here:  Download Practice Record 1112 3rd Quarter Blog
